Change your filters quarterly or as circumstance requires.  Monthly replacement should occur during peak seasons.

Use inexpensive free flowing filters unless allergy specific needs require a Hepa or Media Filtration system.

Consider tinting large or direct sun windows and insulating your attic for optimum equipment performance.

Remove tall grass and loose debris surrounding outside condenser unit to ensure free air flow.

Landscape small shrubs and shade trees around the perimeter of you outside condenser unit.

Have annual A/C checks to concur that the units are running at their optimal ability. 

A/C checks will identify any freon leaks or ducting leaks that will result in wasted energy costs.

Simple DIY things to check before you call

Check the batteries in your thermostat... make sure it's in the proper on/off/auto position.

Hearing a vibration sound?  Improper fitting filters can cause a vibrating noise.

Everything abruptly stops working & someone has been in your attic, check a light switch that may have been inadvertently shut off.

Check your breaker.  Common power surges will cause your breaker to be thrown.  Call if the problem persists.

Check your filters.  Dirty filters will really restrict proper air flow and can actually cause the system to ice up & fail.

A furnace door that has vibrated loose will abruptly disable the system...make sure the door is secure...a simple DIY check.
